I was beat too...just saw several on ebay. Wonder if they're fake? I'm guessing yeah seeing as how there aren't any certified yet.
I agree. Someones trying to follow up the smooth edge Washington dollars with the John Adams to any unsuspecting buyer that will eagerly pay big bucks to try and get what they think is the first one. Its already been proven here by one of our CoinTalk members that its easy to fake one of these. I wouldnt touch one unless its been authenticated by one of the top three TPGs.
yeah, that's what I was thinking. i remember that thread where the guy demonstrated how easy it was to remove the edge lettering.
I guess in addition to one of each mint (P & D), now we'll all have to collect one of each without edge lettering! LOL
it's easy to say fake.............but as i have said for 3 months, this smoothie thing will happen again with the adams dollars and others,it's the same machines, same process, same people, how could it not happen ? after what we have seen with the gw's how can anyone sit back and assume that these are not the real thing,i do not have any of these yet, however we did have the largest gw smoothie (no edge lettering) find in the country, just because we did'nt put it in the newspapers does not mean that it did not happen, please sit back and look at this whole picture, the mint has to many things going on,this was bound to happen...........and it will continue in some way or another.....just my 2 (smoothies) i mean cents...
While I agree it is possible and very likely, on this one, with the knowledge of how easy it is to replicate, I SAY SHOW ME THE NGC OR PCGS SLAB! ( And I'll then judge the coin and subjectively grade it myself :mouth: ) I for one won't even consider a raw smoothie...
I have to agree with you dak. I wouldnt take a chance on it. I realize that this may happen with some of the remaining Prez dollars, maybe the next few, but not the entire series. The mint officials know this error is happening so they're bound to try to make some improvements to the process. But, I also agree that their plate is not only full...its overflowing.
i never said that there are not low lifes out there who will take advantage of these kinds of errors or anything else that might come along, what i said was that these can and will happen with the current production load at the mint, so again just because somebody is lucky enough to be the first to find something, don't assume there are fake, that to me would be uninformed and narrow minded, thats just my opinion.............. and one more thing, if you cannot tell the difference between something that has been faked or for that matter the grade of a particular coin, then only buy slabbed coins, and or enlighten yourself enough to know what you are buying or looking at instead of like some folks sitting back and labeling things as fakes or rip-offs because thats easier then getting the knowledge they need to really give an informed opinion ! negative people.who needs um!
Agreed Then consider me narrow minded, When it comes to raw smoothie coins and Ebay... Guilty until proven innocent in my book. Pictures can be manipulated way to easily, to show things in the best light. I will ammend my earlier statement and say, If its on Ebay or other internet site for that matter, then it better be in a slab from a reputable company before I believe it if its an easily faked error such as the smooth rims. Now if we are talking about an in person, face to face sale and if I have the opportunity to examine a coin in person, I have no problem buying an ungraded coin. Again, even the best pictures can lie... Do you need me to prove a point and post some pics of a fake and a real one to see if you or anyone else can figure it out? I can guarentee I can fool 25 -50 % of the participants All the knowledge in the world doesn't protect you from being fooled by a con man's convincing pictures. Again, I say in hand examination is a must on a raw smoothie coin. Feedback of a seller is not always a good indication of how ethical they are or if they sell with integrity... Check out Aboncom on ebay for proof... 99.2% good feedback .. yet they sell SGS coins that are notoriously overgraded... Caution, level headed decisions, and experience are the best keys to success when considering a purchase of a smooth rim or other easily faked errors on the internet. In my opinion that means a smoothie slabbed by a reputable TPG is the only sure fire way to protect yourself and your wallet... I'm not intending to be negitive. More along the lines of... Realistic ... Safe... Prudent...Cautious... I worked hard for my money and I don't like giving it away to scumbags... Very Simple... Very Understandable... If thats closed minded and negitive...So be it.
I dont believe that someone has just spent $500 on a coin that you coudnt even see it's pic !! Now I am not saying this coin is a fake as I have no idea one way or the other (Cant see it clearly enough LOL) but please for that sort of money provide a decent picture LOL
I just got my current issue of Coin World in the mail today, front page news... ANACS confirms Plain Adams Presidential dollars... So they are out there... Just be careful folks, I'm sure there are more fakes than real ones out there...
"2007 JOHN ADAMS DOLLAR SMOOTH EDGE!!!! this is real i have 7 of these to prove it. this one will be the only one i sell unslabbed.pictures are not the greatest, " Yeah, he can prove it is real because he has seven others. Love that logic. all made by him?
Well, I have to pipe in here. They have been sent to ANAC, NGC and PCGS by people who have purchased them from me. They are real, the ones that are on the front of the Coinworld were sent to ANACS and he has since purchased more and I have sent them direct from me to ANACS. How rare are these? I can tell you that I have gone through over 100K searching and have found less than 75 of the "Godless". The double ran ones are not common either, I have sold alot of them but again, I am in the middle of the hot zone. I would suspect the doubles are going to end up around the same as the Washington "Godless" The ones that I have sold have been on the cover of Coinworld and Newmistatic News. There was also a write up about me turning the first found into Coinworld in a recent article. Yes guys, they are real. My Two Cents.
