I couldn’t resist this nice antoninianus. I already had a couple Caracalla denarii though not as nice as this larger coin. Please pile on with anything related.
Lovely example. I have loads of Tetradrachms of him, but only one Ant. Caracalla (198 - 217 A.D.) AR Antoninianus O: ANTONINVS PIVS AVG GERM, Radiate, bearded and cuirassed bust right, seen from behind. R: P M TR P XVIII COS IIII P P, Jupiter seated left, holding Nike and scepter; at feet to left, eagle standing left, head right. Rome Mint, 215 A.D. 5.5g 24mm RIC IV 260v; RSC 277b
Nice first generation. I’m guessing yours was 215 and mine was 217 since yours is TRP XVIII and mine is XX.
I’d like to own an antoninianus of Caracalla due to their fine style portraits and interesting reverse designs. I currently own two denarii of Caracalla, depicting him as a young boy and as an adult:
That makes an antoninianus, so you're done ! Here's my contribution Caracalla, Antoninianus - Rome mint, 216 CE ANTONINVS PIVS AVG GERM, radiate, draped and cuirassed bust of Caracalla right, seen from behind VENVS VICTRIX, Victory standing left, holding helmet and sceptre, resting on shield set on a captive, another captive at her feet 4.87 gr Ref : RCV # 6785, RIC # 312c, RSC # 612b Q
Coins of Caracalla are readily available in good quality. Congratulations on yours, it's a lovely coin! I try to limit myself, and have two sestertii, two denarii, and this ant:
