I'm especially fond of the JFK Half; only missing the 98-matte. However, I think it should be both commemorative AND discontinued after 2017 - here's why:
    1) The cent must cease; likewise, the paper-dollar.
    2) Put the Lincoln design on the 5-cent nickel AND create a rather generic 2-cents coin reminiscent of our old type (this coin would probably last 5-6-years or until folks just get used to rounding-to-nearest-.05 for change).
    3) FDR Dime stays as well as Quarters-program (might consider all famous Americans, however: Jimmy Hendrix; W.C.Fields; Robert Frost; Mark Twain; Judy Garland, Roy Rogers, etc.)
    4) After the limited-JFK-Birthday-Half sells out, sometime the 3rd-week in April, 2017, roll out the new, golden Jefferson-$5-coin with same specs as the obsolete half-dollar!
    5) Pump up the volume of Native-1$-coins as the Washington dollar bill is discontinued - let the Treasury sort out new paper currency designs/depictions.
    6) Congress shall allow states to issue coins representative of their respective sales tax - not just for convenience, but also to fill demand for coinage due to all the hoarders of the old 1-Cent, and new 2-Cents coins! Whenever state sales tax should change, simply turn them it to any bank and redeem per-piece the new-value-coin. This will also make us much more aware of just what we all pay our governments directly from consumption.
I believe the above accommodations would not only save the government(s) 100s-of-millions of dollars over time but would ALSO serve in expanding the hobby of numismatics!

    I need a beer.

I like the thought of new, but the 2 cent coin is a bad idea..

And the $5 should be Reagan.

This might be the five whiskey and waters I just had talking; but, everything this guy says makes perfect sence. The $5 Reagan: I don't think so: maybe the Koolaid guy-picher from that progressive commercial. You know the one with Flo (SHE MAKES ME LAUGH).;)

Pandering to the weak minded by continuing to produce the paper buck while letting a billion one dollar coins languish in Government Vaults (Sac's, Susan's, IKE's, and Presidential Dollars) is just silly.

Continuing to produce the Kennedy Half Dollar is another Chart topper in stupidity not to mention producing cent and nickel coins which cost more to produce than their face values!

The US Treausry is a bunch of weak kneed woosies!

Aw, don't take it so hard. After all, you were just offering your opinion and folks thought otherwise.........I think you a stalwart and upright fellow for suggesting such a notion. :)

    i like paper money.
it folds easier and doesn't weigh much.
we should have fractional paper instead.
    eliminate coinage altogether.
    :)

Please, no more dead Presidents on our coins. Lets go back to classic designs by REAL artists and not computer generated cartoonish junk. JMHO.

Uh-uh, FDR (the most popularly-elected 4-times) should stay until 2045.
However, I think the "Steal-Your-Face" design might be perfect for the temporary 2-Cents coin; albeit with some olive branches, ribbon-motto and perhaps a liberty cap (obv.)? Keep the Shield with "TWO CENTS" on reverse, but with a Peace-Symbol centered upon it.
