    Hello All,
I see this dime is damaged but is it an error and if not can someone tell me how this may happen to a coin. Just for future knowledge.

It's too hard to tell what is going on. There are partial missing cladding errors. Not saying this is one.
I do lean towards some kind of damage.
What is the weight and is the copper looking areas below the level of the cupro nickel cladding, or on top of the surface.

Looks like a cup holder coin. Soda or beer affected the surfaces
    No error, just damaged

Thanks Sal. I’m doing better than expected. At least my wife is thrilled.

It is definitely damaged, though I don't know exactly what's going on there.

Something, likely something acidic, ate away at the copper-nickel outer clad layers, it seems.

    Corrosion to the clad layer

Suggestion.. Ask your future possible error questions over at the Error Coins forum ;)

Soda, etc can eat it up. And ask here or there because after all you did think damage. :)

What if the weight is heavy and this coin has a retained strike thru?
    Just exploring the idea.
Don't get me wrong it looks damaged.

I understand what you are saying. Your approach, always respectful. Sometimes out of the clear blue sky from others, not so much. I was told the same, to post elsewhere. If Gigi wants to post there maybe she will get different opinions.
    I thank you! :)

Oh, I get ya, If @Gigi63 would answer it would help. You were the last to post not picking on ya, it was just you getting the reply. I was always taught to think outside the box.
