I have an 1884 Mexico 10 Centavos that’s supposed to be .902 silver, however you can see copper along the edge on both sides. There’s a small nick in the edge of the coin and it’s copper inside the nick. I’m wondering if possibly the copper wasn’t fully melted into the silver before the planchet was made. Has anyone seen anything like this on old silver coins?
My first impression is that it was cast copper with silver plate. Have you checked all of the dimensions, weight, etc.?
