And I apologize for the threadjacking. It's just that my first thought on seeing the image was "well, who'd want to put a nice real raw Seated dollar on top of other coins on a burlap sack for a photo?" From there, it was a quick mental jump to other "photo modeling" stories I'd come across...

Wow, that's crazy. The one coin visible as the focal point of the photo! You'd think someone would've whispered in someone's ear.

More specifically that is the exact photo. And it's a cheap source of royalty-free photos. A one-month subscription for up to 5 photos is $25.

It may have been a test. Maybe they were wanting to draw attention to the problem the hobby is facing. It sure got folks talking about it. There is a thread going on over at CU about it but I have not read it.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's a stock photo, but it's not that stock photo.

In a group of people who can spot fake coins by minute differences in individual letters or digits, surely I'm not the only one who sees that the stock photo doesn't have twine showing at the front of the bag? ;)

Absolutely; certainly adjusted; the German coin is oriented differently as well, but certainly the "inspiration" for it:D...

You’d think there’d be no end of collectors willing to provide free cover art for the privilege of having their coins on the cover of a magazine. Why pay for a stock photo at all?

    Maybe it was a test.

You're entitled @Jack D. Young. No apology necessary as far as I'm concerned.

Thanks; I was referring to the responses of food, motor oil and tampons that followed...
