OldHoopster departed us not long ago and was one of those guys that really made CT a better place. I miss him.

Not all that long ago there was a thread about the Oak Island TV program. They had discovered an 8 Maravedis coin on the island and I was intrigued. I found the coin to be quite interesting and had absolutely no knowledge of the piece whatsoever. OldHoop saw my post and sent me a PM giving me a bit of background on the piece and even a link where I could purchase one for the princely sum of eighteen bucks which I promptly secured…. Not long after that we lost OldHoop.

So anyway, I was getting a coin out of the safe for a neighborhood boy that is having a birthday today and ran across this and thought of OldHoopster. Please share any piece you may have that OldHoop may have had a hand in educating you or may have even helped you find. RIP old buddy…

A kind fellow enthusiast. I did not know of his passing, but he will surely be missed by his fellow CT enthusiasts. As Pam said, he was patient and giving of his time and knowledge.

I’m very saddened to hear this. My prayers go out to his family. He will truly be missed, not just here on CT, but in life as well.

Knew @Oldhoopster was sick. Did not know he'd left us. He was a good fella.

@Randy Abercrombie - remind me later and I'll move this thread to the Memoriam forum. Not to hide it, but for posterity's sake.

Speaking of Spanish maravedis coins found on islands...

    (The one I found is a 4-maravedis).

He was a great member both here and over at NGC.
Always nice to others and was the voice of reason in many threads.
He left the NGC forums about the first of the year to get away from a couple of really negative members. He was all about trying to keep this great hobby positive.
He was a great example we can all learn from.

We hadn't shared any coins, but we did share stories of our illness. He was way too young to go like that. RIP
