1997 Bermuda $60 piece. Contains 1.011 oz. of gold. “Bermuda triangle”. Get it? The reverse shows a stylized shipwreck scene intended to portray the wreck of the Sea Venture in 1609. This shipwreck was pivotal in the history of the island and is featured on Bermuda’s coat of arms. It is also thought to have been the inspiration behind Shakespeare’s play, The Tempest. I’ve always thought these were neat.
Meh, I never did learn to play with a pick. Maybe someday I'll get a set of gold fingernails. Not typically a fan of non-round coins, but for this one, I appreciate the humor!
I'm not a fan of anything to do with the queen, or any monarchy. However, this coin has a uniqueness to it that is intriguing. I have to say, I like it @lordmarcovan So no Stairway?
If I let any anti-monarchical sentiment color my collecting, I’d be really sparse on ancient and world coins! And I don’t want that! PS- I had to look up that Wayne’s World reference to catch the drift. (Believe it or not, I never saw the movie, though I recognize its characters and some of the tropes.) You may play Stairway to Heaven all you like, but hands off my golden guitar pick!
LM, if you want that copper spot gone, see a couple of my earlier posts on gold conservation or PM if you'd like. Nice coin, thought myself about getting one but did get the MUCH less pleasant kilogram [silver with gold overlay] companion coin.
I've got a gold Kennedy proof that's flawless to my eye except for a couple of copper spots. I'd love to get rid of them, but don't trust my lab technique on proof surfaces. (On the other hand, the coin's pretty much bullion anyway, and if I did impair it, I'd have my excuse to turn it into a pocket piece and start working on the world's only "circulated" gold Kennedy...)
Actually one of my study coins was MY gold Kennedy. In fact, no residual, no friction, no cloudiness, no hairlines, no alteration of surface. Great result. I can dig it up and do a followup (I think it was about 2 years ago or so). BTW, I also did this with an ANACS graded "66" gold coin and then submitted it to PCGS where it went "69".....
I do want the copper spot gone but am afraid to tinker with a piece of proof gold and am quite chemically ignorant. This one is destined for TPG submission, likely to NGC.
It is titled "how to get rid of red spots on gold". A certain moderator was a bit snide but hopefully got that settled. In any case, you might say I have more than a little background in doing such.....
Now you've given all of those "wantabes" an idea that it would cool to use it for a guitar pick. Watch them fly off the shelves. LOL
Well, I’ve got NGC images, though the grade hasn’t quite dropped just yet. Should be soon. Note the new lack of copper spots. I sent it through NCS for conservation. This was my first time using NCS. I think it was a good result.
Wow, beautiful. The red spots are actually not too bad to take care of and have done it as well as published a couple of times on these boards.
