Here's a Dollar with an odd error on the rim. It looks like a piece of the edge came off during striking and was struck into the edge next to where it came from. The piece has reeding still on it. Here's some pics and hopefully you guys can see it. A first I thought it was just rim damage but when I put a glass on it I saw what I think happened.
It looks like it was put into some sort of locket/clasp and used as jewelry, can you post a whole obverse and reverse photo?
Is it possible a chip of silver was between the collar and the planchet? The reeding appears to support that.
NO. OP needs to make sure the blob of metal is silver and part of the rim. Location at 12 O'clock indicates mount removal.
Yep - and somebody butchered that area of the coin trying to get the mounting off (no innuendo intended)
