I ran across the following article showing photos of 5 talers. While not an expert on Austrian talers, I was wondering if the center coin was a doppletaler or double taler, rather than just a one-taler? Also I thought it was taler, not thaler?
Concur, the size had me at Doppeltaler. Nice identification @Gallienus I've found both usages in English and German when searching for them. I think Wikipedia actually does a good job explaining it better than I could: Thaler - Wikipedia
If it's to scale it is easily a double. Looks like @The Eidolon already nailed it. Thaler and Taler are used interchangeably. I usually use Thaler myself.
Thanks so much. I don't have all the Davenport books so I thought I'd ask here rather than attempting to research it. Surprisingly, this is a very inexpensive example of a doppletaler.
