WOW! It looks like they go a little further than the usual, am I right? Who is the last emperor portrayed in your poster?
Don't I wish! The person who took the coin's photograph that was used in the poster should get a royalty, since he/she owns the copyright to the photo, but I don't think copyright law allows me to get a royalty on any image of a coin that I own, unless I also own the photograph that is being used.
@TIF I'm not a tie guy but do like the shirt I've seen a couple times posted. For me a baggy t shirt or sweat shirt (winter time) is all I need. I'm not a slabber either.
@TIF If a tie is too complicated I can always order a bowtie. I wear bowties to court on occasion. If it's good enough for Dr Who, it's good enough for me
Nice posters, don't have any myself but I can draw up a quick one in PS. As far as ties go, I actually prefer the wide traditional tie. The narrow ones makes me feel more wider.
I'm thinking something like design shown below (mocked up on Zazzle) but with maximum width of 3.25". I'd make the real thing out of fully printed silk so the back of the tie wouldn't be white. It takes a surprisingly large amount of fabric to make a necktie and much is wasted because it is cut on the bias. If I were a male coin collector, I'd want my own coins on the tie-- that would bump up cost because of inefficient use of yardage. Decisions decisions
I'm fine with having your beautiful ancient coins on my tie. Besides, I'm not very good with pictures. These days I tend to use the sellers pictures as my own. I love that tie. Let me know when you're taking orders. I'm definitely down for one.
Since I've never made a tie before nor worked with silk, I'd better do a test run before making any promises. I'll keep you posted. It will take a month to get the fabric.
It does cause the final product to be expensive but I think it's a very good value for custom fabric. The manufacturer I've been using has a range of fabrics-- cottons, polyesters, and one silk-- with prices ranging from ~$20/yard to ~$38/yard (silk being the high end, of course).
How much savings is there making several of the same fabric because of the bias? You might consider a design using one coin (or so) from many different CT regulars that you considered most worthy or to make the fabric most varied. That would probably make each tie a bit different so there would be one highlighting one coin and another highlighting another. Of course there is the problem that some of us are not regulars on the tie circuit (been there, done that).
I went looking for a mouse pad after reading this post. I found an item @vespasian70 should have: http://www.cafepress.com/+roman_coin_of_emperor_vespasian_ad_71_wall_clock,1367455106
I'm really impressed with your capabilities TIF. The other thread had you making furniture. Cool furniture. You've got some serious interest! I made a banana this morning for breakfast. Pealed it all by myself.
