Not to be rude, but your three posts are incorrect. NGCX was not dreamed up by VaultBox. NGCX is limited to moderns, and VaultBox uses this new system, but it is not exclusive to VaultBox. The coin in the OP isn't even a VaultBox coin. I'm not sure where you got your information, but it is not true.
I like the black cores too. They especially look nice with mirrored proof coins! I think I'm in the minority here, but the new 10 point system doesn't bother me too much. I just see it as a different measurement system. But as someone else said previously, I wish there was a conversion chart of sorts where Sheldon grades and the 10 point system were compared side by side. If I wanted to send in two NGC MS65 coins, what 10 point grade would they get, 9.5? The decimal system works well for MS grades 60-70 because we use all the numbers between them grading coins with Sheldon. If someone were to say send in a worn modern ASE, how would they grade that? 3.7? How long will it take NGC to fall into a pattern where they exclude certain numerical grades such as Sheldon does? I highly doubt every #.# will be used. This is all if this sticks around of course!
Sorry, I stand corrected. I wasn't aware they were doing this for other companies. I thought I had a good understanding of what they were doing. Good grief.
According to CCG Executive VP Andrew Salzberg, speaking recently on "The Coin Shop Podcast", one of the main goals of NGCX is to cross-promote coin collecting to sports card collectors by using the same grading scale. Salzberg also stated that NGC hopes to expand the NGCX program beyond moderns to other areas such as Morgan dollars but does not intend to end 70-point grading. If the current "test" works out, Salzberg suggests, submission will be opened to a wider audience.
I don't have a link. There was a thread a few months ago that gave the correlation. I don't care enough to go find it or keep it handy but I'm sure you can find it. It was either in this forum or in US Coins.
just another way to get people to spend cash chasing the new top dog spot it's all about focusing on egos and trust me many have that i want to be top dog mindset but to me i'm not after the grade, holder or whatever all i'm after is will the coin get my notice or not
To me, we are now asking those new to the hobby to learn two different grading scales. I don't see that as a good thing.
That’s a good point. I think it will bring people in. I don’t know if it will bring people in that you want in the hobby unless you’re looking to keep prices going up as product gets tied up in these other schemes. I like sports cards too but somehow I was able to bridge the knowledge gap between the two grading systems.
NGCX grading is explained here: https://www.ngccoin.com/specialty-services/ngcx-10-point-grading-scale/ E.g. 8.8 = AU58, 8.5 = AU55, 8.3 = AU53, there are no grades in between
VaultBox can take our collective enthusiasm to the bank . . . From what I can see, that'll be a pretty empty account. Terrible marketing idea, and a flop in the making.
