I got this in pocket change. It's weight is 4.57 grams. It is slightly smaller than another 20230421_221905.jpg 20230421_221852.jpg 20230420_185551.jpg 20230420_185424.jpg 20230421_221905.jpg 20230421_221852.jpg 20230420_185551.jpg 20230420_185404.jpg 1963 D nickle. I know it's thinner than it should be and not as big around. I thought maybe a foreign planchet or wrong stock? Any ideas would be much appreciated!

Looks spooned and somewhat acid eaten

1963. Acid was rampant, wasn't it? I'm pretty sure "spooning was in also.

Well, i wasn't quite here yet lol. It is about the same diameter all the way around. Guess we may never really know. Much appreciated.

What is spooning if I might ask? Is that what makes it thinner? Thanks man!

Hitting the edge of the coin with a spoon of anything hard. Very time consuming. upload_2023-4-22_11-10-6.png upload_2023-4-22_11-13-20.png

It looks to me like the NICKEL has been exposed to some acidic solution, causing it to loose some of its material and size.

Ed. note: spelling nickel with the L and E reversed is a very common trait and it most often encountered when typing too fast and the L appears before the E.

Looks like it’s worth five cents.

Only worth 5 cents if you hand pay it or deposit to a bank. A self serve machine will reject it.
