Am leaning more towards mechanical doubling with this coin but would like consensus. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
It looks like die deterioration to me. FYI The term "die doubling" does not suggest that it is a "doubled die". Chris
Is it common to see the offset with die deterioration? I thought that with deterioration you typically see weak, slopping edges?
There are better people to talk here, but if you see flat, shelf-like doubling on devices, it is likely MD or machine doubling where the die was not tight and shifted during the strike. The mint mark kind of looked like a re-punched mint mark or RPM. Perhaps someone here could educate us both about this. BTW, welcome to CT.
