@Hugh Stiel , isn't that 92-CC an upgrade from an XF-45 ex Sunny Day Collection you previously posted? Also, can you get a pre-1857 proof?
Had been eyeing this for a while and really like the gold toning. Not the best pictures, my apologies...
I don't think so. Several early Liberty head quarter Eagles have equally low prices in XF and high prices in MS. E.g. compare 1846-O with 1844 or 1847. They're all scarce in higher grades... the 1896-S Morgan would be a better example. $125 in VF35 and $5000 in MS63/64. Talking about 1896 Morgan's here's my newest acquisition: Any comments on this Morgan? I know exactly what it is, do you know as well? ;-)
We have a few O over CC mints, and it almost looks like that to me - but I've never heard of it on an 1896. Then again, I could be way off. There's something weird about the mint mark though.
Picked up a couple gold eagles on the pullback last week. They just arrived. Got a nice 1898 with a large die crack through United States of America.
You are way off indeed Correct, it's a micro O mm. I think @SuperDave nailed it, but I haven't received the coin yet and can't confirm the exact VAM.
