Just came into possession of some CBH and am a rookie at the Overton stuff. I know there are like a billion varieties but can anyone pinpoint 5 really valuable ones? Not talking about overdates per se, just the more subtle varieties. I assume the 1809 O-114a would be one.
What dates do you have?? Top 5 most valuable will be very rare coins that are unique, or nearly unique. You should share dates, and check out http://maibockaddict.com/ You won't have anyone identifying the varieties for you here in all likelihood, as it can be time consuming. R1 is most common, R8 is very very rare. Use this, and ebay sold listings and other records to see what they are selling for. Good luck

It looks to be, based on the images. It appears to be the 'small 8' in the date, meaning this is O-102 or O-102a (a later die stage of O-102) Both Overton listings are R2 rarity, so still pretty common and readily available. People like overdates and some will pay up for them, though, so I am not comfortable putting a price on it. your example appears to be about F-12, I would guess Keep in mind that this is just conjecture based on the small area of the coin provided, so I can not say that this is the exact pairing with 100 percent certainty, but I think it is the most likely.
Die marriages don't constitute varieties, IMO; neither do die states of otherwise common coins. I may be leaving out one, but off the top of my head the most valuable varieties would be 1817/4 1812/1 LG 8 1815 1830 LG LTR REVERSE 1807 BEARDED GODDESS (NOT, IMO, A VARIETY—SIMPLY A DIE STATE WITH A FANCY NICKNAME—BUT IT'S IN THE REDBOOK AS A VARIETY
Why don’t you post good pics of the entire coin, both obv and rev? It would sure help to better determine variety and grade. Just post some good pictures of the earlier coins such as 1809 or those you suspect to be overdates and people here will certainly help identifying the vatieties.
It is the 12/1 "Small 8", but as Micbraun says pics of the entire coin are usually needed to attribute them.
