Just found Searching Thru a Customer Box. Possibly Defective Planchet? I'm sure its an Error, but what lol
Could be a fissured planchet. https://www.error-ref.com/fissures_-_ragged___smooth/ This one would be considered 'ragged'. However, I may be wrong, but it appears to be a planchet error to me.
Interesting, has a chance of being a ragged clip but I'm feeling more towards damage but I'm not holding my breath.https://www.error-ref.com/ragged-clips/
Missed that one,I'm still leaning the websites and all the bazillion secrets,I'll have to remember where that one is.
Planchets are never clipped. They are incomplete. A ragged 'clip' would be from the edge of a torn are the sheet the planchet was punched from. See this diagram below. Grey areas are where the planchets are taken from. To close to the previously punched planchets. The Cent in question is definitely a Fissure.
I basically forgot about that one the only one I remembered was a ragged clip and I didn't think there was anything else similar.
That’s a great looking fissure error and an even better coin roll hunt find. Please protect that coin.
A ragged fissure. These open up in the coin metal strip from tensile forces that build during rolling out of the strip.
I would think that such a "space" in the planchette there would be more of a metal flow during the strike ( which appears almost normal) or if the material just broke loose, some of it would have been pressed into the remainder, but never ran into one of these. Jim
