I've been looking to buy a bulk amount of wheat cents for a while now but can't seem to find a place to do it. I've been looking around on eBay, but most of the results I find are "unsearched" and have a huge premium. As for an LCS the only one around me (at least that I know about (I'm in central CT by Hartford)) isn't an option. Really beyond that I'm not sure where to look. I've been to a couple coin shows but no one seems to have them. If you know someone in my general area that might have them or a link to a site or a sale that would be super helpful. Any ideas are greatly appreciated.
Just don't buy a bulk amount from Coin Vault! Why do you want bulk amounts of wheats anyhow - If you are thinking of investment - you will only get commons that never go up in value!!
Not as an investment more of just a little project. Depending on the rate I get I should be able to flip them for at least a little profit. And really I just wanted to get them to search for errors. I know very well, that why I refuse to buy them.
Someone was advertising in Craigslist with some for sale, but I'm in CA. Perhaps put a listing in Craigslist for $0.03 or $0.05 each and see if you get any bites.
1) Check online for local coin auctions. I usually find these to be less than interesting myself, but there may be one that comes along sometime that has bulk listings. 2) Yes, coin shows. And talk up someone who appreciates your enthusiasm for wheaties. You never know what connections you may make. 3) Local Coin Shops. Never hurts to ask around. 4) It's the time of year when garage sales are happening... as with the Powerball, "it could happen."
Coin shows are hit or miss. So far it's been miss for me. Not a bad idea. I'll give it a shot. What do you mean local online coin auctions? Also yes, coin shops are probably my best bet, but; I don't know any around other then the one. And that's not an option.
Google, "coin auctions in hartford" and other surrounding communities in your area, and maybe you'll see what I mean. That's how I found them.
I saw some for sale but the person wanted way to much also she said she had a 1943 silver wheat, wanted 200 bucks for it, I tried to explain it was a steel with the reasons why, well you'd think I insulted her mother. Wheats are interesting but youll never make money, I have about 4 or 500 of them, talk about taking up space. The idea of tag sales; ask sometimes out of the garage comes the coffee cans. Good luck
I sell wheat cents for 4¢ each plus exact cheap shipping. Any amount up to 30,000 pieces. You should be able to find them for that amount or less at any LCS or ask at a small show. Most dealers don't take them with them to shows because of the weight or might leave them in their cars but every dealer has some
Run an ad, you never know what will turn up, or ask around at a show. Was offered a few thousand at a recent show. There are always some at shows. Side note of no importance... Always thought I'd have something to look through when I retired, so I've kept them for years. Some outta circulation and some bought over the years.. Going back to the late 50's. Now, with 10's of thousands and failing eyes, my grand kids will likely have the joy.
If this were closer to me, I'd pick them up for you and deliver in a few weeks when I go to CT. Maybe he can ship them to you. http://boston.craigslist.org/nwb/clt/5646034897.html
One can ship 7500 wheats in a flat rate box and insure it for about $22.00 total, I believe. Maybe a little more now since the rate went up.
2 small Priority Mail boxes, each holding 10 rolls, would be about $13, if you were referring to my lead.
I've collected wheats for years and got most from tag sales like was suggested, this may sound crazy but I chech thoughs "leave a penny take a penny" well the workers at the stores I frequent- gas stations, convenience stores etc asked what I was looking for when I found one I'd leave a penny; I explained what I liked to collect well ya know you talk to workers and now I make my rounds going to stores that I frequent and after I get my change they'll go in their cash drawer and hand me 5, 10 even at times 20 wheats, I givem a buck once in a while, when I asked why they mostly say "goves me something to do instead of standing here but if you make a million dollars you dont foget me. Sometimes I'll get silver dimes, I like to teach about pennies with them and they've never seen them in their countries. I only have 700+ and no I didn't get them from just a gas station. The guys love hearing the stories concerning pennies and when I bring in a few handfuls of steels with a magnet. You'd be surprised when you talk to people who are mostly treated like they're invisible.
