I was told the same things as above… the reeded sides and no wear under the gold plating are two of the best hopes for a contemporary Racketeer Nickel. Here is my example, purchased from an 83 year old lifetime collector that says it’s his “best guess” at being an authentic example:
Hey everyone, I had to do electrical work up in a 300+ year old home in Vermont and found in the attic a couple of coins. One is a v nickel 1883 with hint of goldish color and a half circle in the middle almost like it was dipped in gold allowed to dry and dipped on the other side. The one that was unearthed in the article is gold! Mine is very light hint of gold. I am worried about sending it to get certified or graded! advice?
