Hello All! I am unsure what I am seeing here. Is this a minor broad strike throughout the penny? I noticing doublings along the letters, date and on the bottom of Lincoln's body/suit. Rather like outlines throughout the contours of the penny. To me it looks like an emboss. I noticed it on the reverse as well. Looking at 16x magnification there are light/weak outlines along the columns as well in the letters. If anyone can help that would be great. I happen to come across this penny while organizing some loose coins. I highly doubt this is double die. Perhaps a repunch error? Check out the photos. I do apologize. I currently do not own a great macro lens/camera. Thanks!
It would be a Broadstruck Cent if it were slightly larger than a normal Cent What is an emboss? The correct term is Doubled Die not Double Die.. big difference quote - "Note that the proper terminology for this occurrence includes the letter 'd' at the end of the first word, hence "doubled die". The term "double die" without the first word ending in 'd' is not proper numismatic terminology" I want to share this webpage with you - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doubled_die I think what you may have is just a normal worn Die aka Die Deterioration strike. You may see better in hand what you are trying to describe.
