OK, now I'm dumbfounded. ALL 4 MARTHA WASHINGTON & A ADAMS FIRST SPOUSE COINS Closed sale for $2,999. ALL FOUR FIRST SPOUSE GOLD COINS 2 UNC & 2 PROOF Closed sale for $4,000. Two different sellers; two different buyers. eep.
ND86 is right.. there is NO collector base for this! This may be like the graded Franklins... I remember when the 2006 Franklin commem came out, ppl were selling the NGC MS70 versions fo the coins for $250! The raw coins went for $60. Today I can pick an MS70 one up for $85 or so and the raw coin for $40... I've been wrong before (many times ) but everytime this happens, all I can say is "This is ridiculous, it all has to end sometime!"
ahhh this time it will be "These coins sold out in seconds! Most people couldn't even get an order in! We have almost every coin the mint made and wish to offer you the NGC MS69 coin for an incredible price, its almost like we are throwing them away, only $1099... Folks, Im sure these will be worth $3000 in a couple of years"
They say something similar, to limit their potential liability. "We'll be selling them for $3,000 in a couple of years." Of course that implies that the "coin" will be worth that much without Robert (et al.) actually saying it...
I wonder what the unc proof split is on these. I bet it is around 30K oroof and 10K unc. If I am correct the unc's will go up and the proofs will go down.
I also wonder if there has ever been a coin that sold out in three hours that went on to fall back to bullion value. If there is I can't think of it and that bodes well for these coins short-term anyways. And the sales on these coins were amazing, I wasn't going to buy but after seeing 8,000 orders in two hours I had to jump in too. I am not sure it is comparable to judge these against the Eagle coins as these are all different designs per coin and all the eagle gold coins are the same. These spouse coins are more commemorative in nature so if we go by that then 40,000 mintage is not so high. The jamestown gold did over 55,000 I think so these are lower than that one. Even the half ounce gold eagle proof last year did 37,000 by itself not including the bullion and W coins. it will be interesting to see how the sales go next time, I expect the next two to sell out at 40,000 on the first day now just like these did.
Actually, I expect there will be a near even split....given the order limits, and the US Mint website congestion during the first hour, I suspect that many people bought both even if they had initially intended to just buy one version..."WOW, EVERYONE IS BUYING THESE, I SHOULD GET BOTH" JMHO, FloridaBill
I'm still not sure if I got mine. I completed my order around 1:20. My order status says "order on hold" (which is not the same as the "order is suspended" that I am hearing here. -- Peter Planchet
I was told that my order is on a waiting list, but is says my order is being processed. Yesterday it did say "order on hold". Does this mean I am "in" or still on a waiting list?
You can tell how many they have done by the order number, and I actually have multiple order numbers plus what others posted on another message board. It is easy enough then to calculate what the approximate sales are.
mine says order on hold in the my account section of the mint website but I got this email 1. 2007 FIRST SPOUSE GLD UNC (MW) (X05) Qty 1 @ $410.95 - Backordered 07/04/07. 2. 2007 FIRST SPOUSE GLD UNC (AA) (X07) Qty 1 @ $410.95 - Backordered 07/04/07. I have to call tommorrow (more bs from the us mint- big surprise!), if they try to back out on their commitment it will constitute theft plain and simple.
I did not place my order till 3:10 and I am getting the order on hold message as well. You were nearly two hours ahead of me, and I don`t know what this means. Chances are you will receive your coins. I believe they sold out before 3:00. I doubt that my order will arrive. I just got my order in too late. Still keepin my fingers croossed though!
