The legend tells that Zeus was disguised in the shape of a bull when he abducted Europa, sister of Phoenician king or god Kadmus, from the shore of Sidon. He kidnapped her to the continent which held her name to present : EUROPE. A mosaic figuring this legendary scene is exhibited in the National Museum of Beirut. The following coin clearly shows the same image on reverse. The obverse seems to represent Emperor Elagabalus. The coin was struck in Sidon - Phoenicia. Please post your views.
All I did was soaking the coin in pure distilled water, and then I merely brushed it with a soft tooth brush.
You need to look at it under magnification. Take a pin or something sharp and just brush the green stuff. If it is soft and dusty or flaky then you have a problem.
I just used a pin and removed the massive green spots on the bottom of obverse, a little bit to right. And then I brushed them with a soft tooth brush. They disappeared easily and completely. As for the other green spots, I can't see them even with a magnifier. They only appear with the digital camera, as shown above. BTW.. Can we talk about the coin before it disappears. It's in hand now.
Yes, that sounds like bronze disease . Perhaps it will not progress rapidly if you dry the coin thoroughly and store it in a very dry place. It's best to check it often though, and treat again if needed. If you have some VerdiCare, that would also be a good thing to use after the initial cleaning and drying.
