I'm looking to build a 20th century collection of graded circulation issues. I'm working backwards - so far
have all the "regular" circulation types, the bicentennials, Buffalo (1 &2), FSB Mercurys and FT Roosevelts,
Standing Lib Quart (Type 1, 1917), VDB penny, and I'm constantly looking for others but they are
    getting more expensive . . .

Finished a 19th and 20th Century old style Cap holder type sets, and working on an Indian gold type right now.

I have 1 I started about a year ago. It is a counterstamped type set, so far I have 29 pieces. They're getting harder to find as the set gets larger. Here's a few of the nicer ones.

Although I've never purchased a "type" holder I sure as hell love them.

My Cents go back to 1797 as do my Half Cents. Several complete business strike 2 Cent sets, working on 3 Cent Nickel and Silver, half dimes from 1832, nickels from Shield on including with rays, dimes from 1834, need the 75CC to complete my business strike 20 Cent set.

Quarters start at 1818, halves at 1813 and dollars at 1799. Very little in the way of gold.

    I reckon I'm a junkie.

I have never seen you post over here. I look forward to meeting you at Summer Seminar.

I am a type collector as well. I love nice, mid grade 19th century type coins that are original and crusty, especially Bust Quarters and Halves. In addition to working on a nice type set, I buy any nice quality pieces I see for the right price, even if I already have the date/type.

    7070 type set

i have been working on a 7070 type set for a while.
i have added spaces and several pages to accommodate all
half cents to dollars types from 1794 to present. best condition i could find,
    been upgrading when i can,
i enjoy my coins all in 1 album, to see the evolution of American coinage

I have been collecting type for many years. I have a Dansco, and am starting to collect the earlier types too.

I'd love to start a type set but I have too many other sets on the go at the moment. Hopefully someday soon I'll get around to doing one.

    I've got what I call a type-subset.
Since I can't afford the older coins in the grades I want, I've had to limit how far back in time I go.
Currently my oldest coin is an 1806 half cent, and it likely will continue to be beyond the foreseeable future.

Of course hitting the lottery would change all that ;-)

I am working on a 7070 album. Its about half full. Have a nice 1794 cent. Nice twenty cent piece and just got a 1829 half cent on ebay.

I'm getting a 7070 album, just to move a lot of the type coins I have to an album and out of my folder. Plus I'd like to see just how close I am to completing one.

I had to do a Google search to find out what a 7070 album is.
    Now I know (sort of.)
Not knowing EXACTLY what Dansco considers a typeset, I don't know how it compares with my thinking.

To give me a general idea would someone count the number of half dollar types are in the 7070 album from the Capped Bust series starting in 1807 through the Barber halves?

I personally see 10 at the moment.

The Dansco 7070 has 5 slots for half dollars starting in 1807:

    - Capped Bust 1807-1836 w/lettered edge
    - Capped Bust 1836-1839 w/reeded edge
    - Liberty Seated 1839-1865 no motto
    - Liberty Seated 1853-1855 w/Arrows
    - Liberty Seated 1866-1891 w/Motto

    For me, that's a problem.
Since we're not counting the Barber, I see 9 varieties (and there could be more depending upon how you view that time period.)

Here's the way I break it down:
Capped Bust - Lettered Edge (1807-1836)
    Capped Bust - ReededEdge/Reverse "50 CENTS" (1836-1837)
    Capped Bust - ReededEdge/Reverse "HALF DOL." (1838-1839)
    Seated Liberty - No Motto/No Drapery (1839)
    Seated Liberty - No Motto/Drapery (1839//1866)
    Seated Liberty - Arrows & Rays (1853)
    Seated Liberty - Arrows/No Rays (1854-1855)
    Seated Liberty - Motto (1866//1891)
    Seated Liberty - Motto & Arrows (1873-1874)

I have the 7070 as well. I am working on getting the best coins for it. Where I can get BU, I get BU. :)

BU is mostly out of my range.
I do XF/AU with an occasional VF.

Fifteen MS and two VF out of 75 coins through 1924.
