With the current scale, everyone has a choice to either ignore the numbers or not. Most probably choose not to ignore them (people like having the numbers there).

With many coins being sold on the internet or through catalogs, where photos might not reveal every detail, I think it's important to provide the consumer with a more precise grade than the 4 point scale would provide.

You guys missed the point. Which is more than 4 general grade levels is unneccesary!

When you order a burger and the waitress asks you how you want it cooked you don't tell her Medium 53. You only need Rare, Medium and Well. The differences in between are so small and obscure it's best to leave it up to the cook and your taste buds.

Why are you necro bumping endeavor

This has got to be one of the longest response by an op to topic answers lol

And yes, I order burgers that way. And if she brings me a 53 when I clearly asked for a 58 let's just say the tip might be in zinc form :hilarious:

I disagree with that premise. 4 grades is far to few

Haha. I only replied now cause we were talking about this topic on another thread and so when I came back here to pull the image of my new scale I saw the responses.

I actually like your grading scale. It makes a lot of sense. It reduces confusion in trying to nail down one grade out of 70 plus options. Or what about a 1-10 scale? That would make the job of TPGs a lot easier but I wonder if we'd rely on them so much. As far as 64 + grades, I didn't know they cost more than 65s. I actually experienced the opposite at a coin show recently. This dealer lumped 64 and 64+ Morgans together, and the 65s were out of my price range.

Have you ever seen a PR1 coin sell for more than a MS65? They do. Not surprised that a 64+ would sell for more.

This is the funny part; its not about the coin anymore, its about the holder and the + or * on that holder. People want other people to see their holders and go "ooohhh....aahhhhhh..." The want their ego's rubbed and to be liked by all. The coin itself is pushed to back burner. I say let them pay a higher price and learn their lesson the hard way. People are so concerned with what other people think about them that it makes me sick. JMHO.
