Hello. I joined this forum because I recently inherited a box of coins, some very old and probably rare, from all over the world. I will probably sell them as I need the money but I want to get a fair price for them. I know almost nothing about coin collecting. I joined this group because I would like feedback on the best way to sell them, whether through a coin dealer or Ebay or wherever. I am hoping also that maybe I can post info and photos of specific coins to get responses as to their value. I'm not sure if this is the correct forum for that. If not, can you recommend others? Thank you!
Yup. Post clear pics and we'll get you going. World coins should be posted in the world forum though. All US coins in this forum
welcome to CT. I look forward to seeing photos (both sides of the coins) of your world coins. I can help you with those coins.
Welcome to CoinTalk, the advice you receive here will be worth more than you have to pay for it also, if you hang around and make 10 posts, there is a section of the forum where you can offer them for sale without the e-bay fees. Gotta take some pictures though...camera, cell phone, even scanner, but we can't tell anything without pictures.
There's also a "what's it worth" forum that you can post coins in to get a rough idea. Welcome and good luck!
Welcome, but a word of warning. Unless the coins were inherited from someone who was a serious collector, the chances of them being rare is probably very slim. It can happen, but it doesn't happen very often. Just being "very old" will not automatically make them rare or valuable. Also what do you mean by "very old"? Back when I worked in a shop I got a lot of calls from people about their "very old" coins from the 1950's and 60's.
A while back I posted a list of coins and currency that came my way and this forum was extremely helpful in picking out the most valuable pieces. If you have a lot of coins, you may want to make a list and post it, then you could post pictures of the ones people here think may be the most valuable. Just a suggestion... putting together a list is a lot of work, but probably less work than photographing an entire box of coins...
Most seem to be from the 1800's with several from 1700s and 1900s and at least one from the 1600s. They are very random, from all parts of the world and in var Thanks. I might do that.
OK, sounds like you have a fair chance of having some interesting pieces, (may still not be valuable but we can hope) One thing I haven't seen mentioned DON'T try to clean them!!
Agreed and there's a lot of knowledgeable and informative members here that can help. As well as some who would give a fair price for the coins
