Curious about the current value of this coin. It was estimated to be worth about $100 30 or so years ago. Thanks.

Hard for my old eyes, is it the "small motto"?

Yeah, I'm wondering if that $100 quote we got was for the small motto.

It looks to be in AU condition so 100 bucks is a fair retail value in my humble opinion.

    Yeah I agree with coinzip.
Judging off the pic, that is a real nice coin. And while I wouldn't pay $100 for it that's probably about right.

From PCGS Auction Prices history, only five of the last twenty slabbed AU Large Mottos have exceeded $100 - including Ebay sales and going back to 2014 - and all were AU53 or better.

I don't follow values for these coins, but it's nice!

What others have said — that's a really nice coin.

It is a nice looking 2 cents. Interesting pattern in the horizontal lines at the top of the shield. Looks faintly like some lettering, but can't be sure. Tried some image processing software, and it looks vaguely like the motto from another 2 cent piece or the die pressed against it. Again, not sure.

Strange, it looks like the upper serif on the D in United is missing; I thought that occurred some time in 1865 (as all circ issues i've seen from 1865 on seem to have this defect). 1864's usually have the upper serif.

Just curious, if the coin was valued at 100 dollars 30yrs ago; wouldn't it be worth more afer 30 yrs or is supply and demand a greater factor. Sorry if I sound ignorant but I'm new to the many different types of coin collecting which is odd because I've been collecting coins but for the most part put them cases and just kept stacking them in a safe or under floor boards, I guess I love the hunt

Some coins go up in value and some go down.
