Thanks for posting. I haven't got one in a long time, and a few that I stamped never got a hit. Looks like stamping a bunch is probably needed to get results...
I received one at a Dunkin Donuts Shop about a year ago. I wouldn't be surprised if the banks do pull them from circulation when they come in with deposits. You would need to be right behind the individual and require change after his purchase was made.
I found a dollar with a Wheres George and it went from X to Highland, NY then Buffalo to someplace in Australia. That was a trip. Some I do don't go too far. So take about 5 years to get a hit. It is just fun to see where its been.
I've heard people say this before don't believe it one bit because not only does it cost money to print new bills but it cost money to store and destroy old bills. So I don't think that they are going out of their way to destroy one dollar bills at the slightest marking as it incurs such an expense for a measly one dollar note.
I actually got one in change 2 weeks ago when I picked up my comic books. I was gonna enter it, but went to get something to eat and needed $1s for a tip, so it got spent. I used to see them often but it was the first I got in years. That is true. I remember doing it more back then but now, meh. Who really cares.
I'm a pretty active Georger myself. It's interesting to see where my money goes after it leaves (our) hands.
I've been doing George for years. I'm currently ranked 3,207 of 12,801 (74.2 percentile). 244 of 743 in California. I've had an 11% bill hit rate. BEAT THAT
11% is not bad. Some users claim to have up to 25% hit rates. These users are often held in something of a dubious light as they essentially have more than double the site's average hit rate of around 12%. Sometimes there are explanations for having a high hit rate like this, such as encouraging wait staff to hit the tips they give them. This is something of a conflict of interest for both parties when this happens in that the user is attempting to artificially inflate their hit rate while the wait staff just cares about keeping the customer happy to get more tips. Either way, this goes against the intended nature of the site, which is to track the natural circulation of currency.
I settle in at around 102 to 108 in the NYS lists. Been doing W/G for about at least 15 years or more. It's fun. Go to a local George gathering, they are fun.
When I first started, my dad and I would enter each other's bills and we racked up hit after hit. They found out, removed all those hits into "alternate" or whatever it was (so that it wasn't factored into my hit ratio). These days, I always withdraw and cash checks in small bills so I can flood the market with 300 1 dollar bills. BUT THEY TIME IT TAKES TO ENTER AND MARK IS BRUTAL. But its fun and it's not like I have anything else to do...
I never knew they had those! Sounds pretty awesome. I'll bring a large stick to beat my way to the top of the George scoreboard
