Uhm, so I bought this toned RR denarius (M. Cipius M. F.)

After being left without a showcase toned ancient coin in my collection, due to the forged S. Severus denarius, I wanted to add a new toned dark beauty to my collection.

I took a stroll through Civitas Gallleries, and the old envelope toning of this coin jumped out at me and grabbed my attention. Well, I caved and bought it. It supposedly even comes with an old collection envelope. I hope the envelope has a date on it.

So, what do you guys think of my new puppy? Be honest, it's ok to say you don't like it.

It's a beauty. I also enjoy getting stuff from Josh, when I can swing it. He's my goto guy for my scrap gold dumping.

    My trainwreck.

@Sallent lovely, lovely coin. I am a sucker for toning, so long as you know it is transitory........:D

It can only get darker...which is fine by me. At least we can say two things: It is not ridiculously shinny, and it won't turn into that monotone gray most heavily cleaned ancient coins tone into, so it's all good.:woot:

HEY! I LIKE that bankers mark! Gives it the "Old Salt with a Pipe" look!

I don't like it. I don't like it. I don't like it. I'm practicing what many politicians attempt. If I say it enough, maybe you'll believe me.

I don't see an "old" salt. Rather a youngster if'n you ask me.

Agreed. Give me a good cigar. No packets of tobacco, pipe tools, pipe lighter, etc, etc. Plus I always burned holes in clothes when the tobacco would spark or pop.

I quit smoking three months ago, cold turkey after 30 years of a pack a day. You may have read about murderous rampages up here in PA, but I'm fine now. :)

Don't get me wrong, I love a good Cuban cigar every now and then too, but I prefer the careful preparation of piped tobacco and the warmth of the pipe bowl in my hand.

Anyway, just to keep it legal, my entire RR denarii collection to date:

I can't hang onto good RR's. Here's a plate of a select few that have passed through my store recently. They all belong to you guys now...

Your M. Scaurus denarius looks very familiar. :D

I still can't believe you decided to sell it after saying you'd never do it. I'm glad you did. To this date it is one of the best purchases I've made. I love that camel and scorpion. I wouldn't trade that coin for anything.
