Was thinking about working on a set of Ike dollars. Asked my bank to order a box of large dollars. They said they cant specify large or small and I would probably get small ones. Anyone else experience this? Guess Ill have to keep asking tellers for them.

In all reality, I doubt can provide you with rolls of a coin that circulated or sort of circulated 40 years ago.
They must have changed the order form. A teller once showed me the order form for their bank several years ago and pointed out the box to designate large or small. He offered to order a box for me but I didnt have the ready cash at the time.
I always have my bank buddies save me their oddball change. I still get Suzi B dollars but haven’t gotten an Ike in a very long time….. Top, do you want a VERY reasonably priced set in a Dansco? I happen to know a guy that has two….

Never heard of anything like that before. I hope you can put together a nice set of these. The price is fairly reasonable.
I was in banking. They should have a contact at their main vault that they deal with. If you have an account there they should at least give the respect of at least checking for you. I worked in banking for years and we accommodated the collectors. Tellers will buck it sometimes but they do work at a bank! Lol!
Several years ago I was doing what you are attempting to do, probably ten or twelve years. Every Ike dollar I got from the bank were really bad. To buy one at a time on Ebay was way more costlier than I wanted to pay, although they would have probably been superior to what I have. What I did was I just purchased a set. It won't win awards, but I am very happy with it, and it was well under two hundred dollars. Of course your luck may be better than mine was.
Good suggestion. However, major Banks now have a Tellerless Model. Tellers will no longer be available for daily transactions and service. There will be support staff available for limited aspects (for instance-some ATM Models reject processing deposits of certain Healthcare Insurance payments) or withdrawals in excess of ATM guidelines. On Line Banking will be required for all other types of financial transactions and appointments for same. The Banking Industry benefitted from COVID. It was a wonderful teaching experience worthy of a Wharton Class in Overhead reduction, because it displayed the wonderful savings of overhead costs that customers would accept....reduced hours, reduced employee availability, acceptance of On Line financial transaction, increase for previous ordinary transactions (an example-out of checks and need 5-10 until new checks arrive used to be a no charge transaction that is now a $1.50 per check charge-and in the tellerless Banks an appointment is required to obtain temporary checks). The personal customer service aspects are not going to be available, even in "local/community" Banks. Banks with active Tellers have instituted strict time control for their service per customer, including at the Drive thru window, and have reduced availability of service Tellers, to just under the "frustration and acceptance" threshold, until the switch to Tellerless operations is completed. The friendly neighborhood financial institution will disappear. FCUs are, for the present, are resisting the reduction of service model, and that is a good thing. How long can they hold out? Who knows, but I suspect as long as they can continue to offer the best CD rates, they will be the last Bastion to succumb. This has been a Charley Talk.... Truth in editing: added " " where needed.
I got lucky in completing my set. My LCS was having an anniversary event and they had a big container of Ike dollars with a contest to guess how many were inside. I guessed right and won the container, becoming the owner of 328 Ike dollars. I was easily able to complete my set, deposit the bad ones at the bank, and sell the rest on eBay for a modest profit. Of course, this option is not available to you.
Yes, the future will be different in every aspect. Pharmaceuticals will be changing severely in the future. As for now, tellers are available, here anyway. But the “personal” touch is slowly slipping away. Online and no interaction. In some ways that’s good but many ways, bad. Kids stuck on phones, etc. Work ethic, whole other subject. CDs, well that will change as well. The past years banks gave away money and gave people over the value of their homes. Rates were higher then. Big circle but I do believe the future will be a little different. So yes, lay-offs, etc. in the future. People think that customer service is horrible, just wait until a machine is down, no meds, no money and on hold for an hour. Medical! No comment! Not being negative, it’s actually happening before our eyes.
I really enjoy crh and would prefer to find most of my coins that way. Not much fun buying someone else's efforts. Its the thrill of the hunt!! To me thats coin buying not coin collecting. Also hate to pay shipping if not necessary. Thanks anyway Randy.
