i am very curious to know a bit more about these 2 errors on this 1904 Double Eagle. Pic number 1 , on a small part on the rim, there is like little 'tracks'? looks like small serrations were struck into it? Pic number 2, hard to put into words ,but where the rim meets the edge , possibly part of a wire edge/rim? ive tried to take the best pics I can, would love to hear your opinions ! cheers everyone!
Not an error or a variety, possibly wear from a jewerly bezel. Post the coin in full obv,and rev. Sides...
I think pic 1 could be a 'collar clash' where the hammer die hit the top of the collar , then imprinted the serrations into the rim when striking the coin. Just from other pics I have seen on this type of error. But pic 2 , I'm still not sure , but don't think it is from a bezel , just because of the surface condition of the coin , if it was in jewellery it would be more worn , loss of more luster . Ect. Man these things do my head in haha
