2014 p dime

    Need help on this dime 2014 p ..has some extra metal what it call ….ty in advanced to all that comment …..the extra metal is on top of the head hair…

    Die breaks or die cracks are issues on the Die that strikes the blank planchet. So what occurs is that the metal from the blank flows into the void of the die and appears raised on the coin.. It is never extra metal.

    Thanks. I don't seem to have a shortage of spent pill bottles. I use a pair filled with quarters to prop a piece of glass (from a broken picture frame) to bend the light at a 45° angle. Old shoebox, some black packaging material from something I bought, and an LED light filtered through some more packaging material. Under the black felt is a cannister that I bought a watch in long, long ago. It's filled with half dollars. The most expensive part about the setup...are the spare change I've put inside the cannisters and pill bottles. I'm sure sand would work too!!

    That's a good point. Looks like extra metal...but it isn't. Misplaced metal, perhaps.
