Said the very superfluous post. Now that’s irony for you.

I'll be happy to take any badly damaged 90% silver if you can't stand the sight of it.

Be my guest. If you want damaged bullion coins, go for it. I will honestly admit to be a condition snob, when it comes to coins. Whatever makes a collector happy, is cool.

I've been reading your posts here for a long time. I know you know your quality coins, and I always enjoy seeing them. You're one of the people I'd tag for hard questions, especially if I ever got seriously into Morgans.

But I also enjoy seeing people find silver coins for face value, and I enjoy even lower-stakes mysteries (someone drilled out the digit that distinguishes a 1964-P from a 1974-P Kennedy half; can we tell which one we have? Yep).

I don't see this as a wasted post, although it's probably generating a little more discussion than it needed to. But even if it were, "superfluous posts" are even lower stakes than damaged coins, IMHO at least...

Yes, whatever someone wants to collect is cool.

And I understand that bit about being a condition snob- I have to fight that impulse myself when I read some of the posts about pocket-change minor "errors" that people post.

But what's important is to not insult someone else over what they choose to collect, I reckon.

As you can see from the post above, I have deliberately collected damaged coins in addition to premium-quality examples. The former can be fun, actually.

@lordmarcovan I love that hat with all those fishing lures attached. The coins make wonderful flashers and judging by the various coins I’d say you every weather condition covered. :)

I wish I still had all that holey gold! Sold 'em all during the Recession, when times got lean. The hat looks more like this, nowadays.

I can see you’ve worn it a lot over the years. I think it’s great.

Absolutely understand. It is just that we get a flood of newbies who often just want to pick our brains about the value of coins, as opposed to collecting and gaining expertise about coins in general. You are one of the individuals who I find to have lots of experience in diverse forms of collecting in the hobby, and that is both valuable, enriching, and just plain fun. Maybe I am getting too doctrinaire in my old age, but I like to see people collecting and discussing those collections with seriousness of purpose, as opposed to the value of the metal, alone. Ok, I said it, and perhaps it is my prejudice.

We all get a tad crusty as we get older.

Hang on a sec- what's going on out there?

HEY YOU KIDS!!! GET OFFA MY LAWN!!!

There, I'm back. Where was I?

    Oh, yeah. Crusty. ;)

Why, just a moment ago, my bride of decades asked me why I was making those noises like groans.

"Nothing, Sweetheart. Just old man noises."

(*Truth be told, it's not kids invading the lawn. It's weeds... and ducks. Harumph.)

Reminds me of "Welcome Back, Kotter" where he and his wife sleep on a sofa/sleeper. He gets up one morning and gives out a groan, spins around looking everywhere and finally exclaims "That's not my noise, that's my DAD'S noise, and he didn't make it till he was 60"

This one is fine. I’m really sick of the microscope pics of pocket change asking if it’s some sort of doubling/error.
