Howdy All! I was able to pick up a nice coin the other day and thought I would see how ya'll grade it. A few years back the dealer in town bought a BU set of Washington Quarters all raw...he has since then had most of them slabbed and I've bought a few of them for my AU/MS set. This is a new one that I just got... I've also been checking for varieties nowdays alot more than I use too...I've gotten all of James Wiles books on Washington Quarters and loce them! I would strongly suggest you do the same if you like Washington Quarters...his site www.varietyvista.com has the last 2 Vol's for sale at $20 each....a STEAL for the books that are normaly $40-$50 each...Vol 1 is out of print. The coin below is graded by NGC....it looks like it may have some "slide marks" from being in that type of albumn. All in all I think the coin is graded right. Have fun! Speedy
I have looked at this one a few times this evening. I just can't tell if there is a slight rub on the obeverse high point. It looks like the color changes a touch, so I am inclined to say that its a 58. However, I would not be surprised to see it as a 63 coin.
Same as I thought, bob. I'd personally say 55-58, but market grading (and a NGC with the unholy Coin Vault on its mind) gives it a ubiquitous 62.
Speedy: Nice piece, looks like the old Wayte Raymond album toning, and those slide marks are common from the stiffness of the slides in those albums. Still, attractive toning, I'd say at least MS-63. (But, I have been very wrong before.)
MS-62, maybe 63. The reverse is nice, but it seems like maybe the obverse has a weak strike? Not sure.
Well....normaly I would wait longer before I post the grade....but.... The coin is graded MS64! And I paid right at $150. I asked my dealer how much since this is a coin he has been trying to sell for sometime and knew that he would make me a good deal...so he pulls out gray sheet and tells me $150. I didn't look for myself but in most cases my dealer sells by BID or alittle over, so I thought that it was fair. I did some checking on Teletrade and it seems that I paid right at what they have been going for. I don't like all of these BLAST White ones so this was an added plus to the coin! The Washington Quarters from the 30's seem to be under valued in some ways...and they are always harder to find IMHO...so I'm happy about this pickup! All in all I think it is a nice coin! I have a few other dates in MS66 and I like this one more than those! Speedy
It's a nice coin. I would love to see it in hand, as it definitely hasn't bee dipped blast white. Looks very original! :thumb:
