Any idea about this 1983 D Lincoln?

    Honestly I'm curious what really happened here when this coin was being minted

    Copper plated zinc cent.

    Honestly..
    Plating issue. Burst bubble on the mint mark.
    It occurred way after it was minted.

    beginning in 1982 all pennies are made of zinc core copper plated. what you are seeing is the zinc rotting out of the copper plate. in a few yrs, there will be no penny if left out to elements

    Note to self:
    Sell the 1984 doubled ear & the two 1995 ddo and the 2 1999 WAMs before they self destruct.
    Now back to our original programming.
