Sppeedy, Please keep us posted on the launch. I've gotten into nickels thanks to a bunch of nickel nuts around here, and I'm certainly looking forward to the website.
Nickel information request. I got a lot of nickels. You guys don't want to know just how many nickels I really got. :secret: But I need to know what dates and Mint marks are worth looking for? Can anyone give me a crash course as to what I should be on the look -out for in the way of nickels that might hold some value? Links welcome. Thank you for any and all help you can provide. You need to watch for a few more than just 1950-D. Any coin dated 1942-1945 with the BIG minted above Monicello on the REV of the coin is Silver. Keep those. There are also some RPM's and DD's to watch for. As soon as I can get my site working there will be a listing that will be updated from time to time listing the RPM's and such. As time goes on there will be photos also for each one. Speedy
Thanks speedy. I did know about the silver nickels as I'm a silver bug too. Didn't know about RPM's and DD's though. I would like to learn more and see those photos. Feel free to post your site at realcent when it's up and running. Ardent Listener
The 1950-D may be the key date, however it does not carry the premium price as a few others in the Jefferson nickel series in BU grade like the 1939-D 39-S and the 1942-D . Those three coins will coast much more then the 1950-D as for the RPM in the Jefferson series go to this link for more info http://conecaonline.org/content/Top100Jeffs.htm I hope this helps. Bruce.
One thing I would like to add. The top 100 Jeff. listing needs to be updated badly. Some of the coins no longer belong in such a list and others need to be added. Hopefuly a job that I can do someday. Speedy
Hey Bruce! I've been talking to James Wiles, the guy who helped make up that list, and he said that it hasn't been updated in years. Hopefuly after I get done with some of the research I'm doing I'll be able to help update the list. I've also noted that on that list there aren't many photos of the listed coins. That needs to be changed also. Speedy
Speedy. That's very true needs update for sure , James is first class and I know he will be a big help I think now that nickels are becoming popular again there will be more updates. I am looking forward to your new site, and if I can be of any help please feel free to PM at any time. Bruce.
Ahh, I see a glimmer of hope!! On a whim today I tried www.VarietyNickels.com and I see a little sneak peak at what is coming!! Hope all is going well with it Speedy!
Hey Guys! Glad that ya'll like it----I tried a few different looks but they were either too messy looking or they were hard to move about it. My goal was to get a site that anyone could use. The colors---Jason had White and Blue...I've always liked a dark background and then another bright color! It was either Green, Blue, or orange! I'm starting to add pages (The ones that are listed right now may change as I just made some TEST pages) so if ya'll have any suggestions on what should be included on there, please let me know! Speedy
I'm sure you've alredy thought of this, Speedy, but the history of the coin, it's designer, it's design changes and the specifications and production numbers are important info for the beginner. Many design changes are described in "The Jefferson Nickel Analyst", and also on the webpage below... http://users.scronline.com/lockem/20thcentury.txt
Speedy: Very nice site, is it yours? Good luck updating the listing, let us know if you need pictures of any varieties. :thumb:
Hey Jody, All of that is in the works...and should be comming pretty soon. What I haven't been able to find is a good clear photo of the designer. Frank, Yes...the site is mine! I was able to work out a deal with the past owner and bougth it a few weeks back. I'm sure I'll be needing photos....one thing I'm wanting to do is have good photos of each vareity that I can. So far there is no site that has such a database and I think it would be really helpful! Speedy
Thanks Jody! Do you happen to know if that photo is ok to use on such a site as mine? I thought that this weekend I would be able to get alot more done on the site---but I got a call today from a place I do some work for and I have to work tomorrow. Maybe I'll at least get some of the history page up. Speedy
Speedy, That picture is actually a signed publicity photo. Mr. Schlag used to sell autographed pictures of himself. I don't believe it's a copyrighted image. It should be ok to use for educational purposes.
