I have been wanting a wtc gold for awhile, and when I saw this toned one, I knew it was for me. The coin is amazing in hand.. I had trouble capturing the colors as usual, so took lots of pics. The reverse shows normal color to compare. I was not expecting to feel so oddly emotional when I got this coin. Feels weird to hold it knowing where it has been. That is a day I can never forget.
I don't care for the "marketing" of tragedy for financial gain...for all intents and purposes these are just gold bullion in PCGS marketing clothes. I can think of many ways to better remember the horrific event...to each his/her own I guess.
I figured I would see at least one comment like this. I can see that view, but at the same time, I feel awed knowing I own something that was there on that day.
At first I tought this poor taste. But then remebered that this has been done in the past with letters and coins that were on board sunken ship or downed aircrafts. What I now find interesting is the provinance. Can pcgs give these details ? Who found it, were and photographs ?
Like I also said, to each his/her own. I also don't get buying slabbed bullion in general - even the kind with regular non-gimmick labels.
It looks beautiful and from listenig to or I should say reading them it in a home with a person who; at the least feels appropriate with what it is/ not just yellow metal, and if I may will probably keep it, display it, give it the repect it deserves and probably educate people should they ask. You do sound like a person waiting to make a buck off pain. Glad you shared and also have it.
Sure but let's not confuse these with gimmick labels These are provenance labels more akin to cracked gsa's, saddle ridge, shipwreck etc
I wonder if the toning was from the heat of the buildings . I can see both sides of the argument , but I think it's a fitting remembrance of a horrible day in our history . Nice pick up .
I wondered that too. They were in a safe, so who knows. Maybe it was on the outside edge, and picked up some of the heat?
If I recall correctly, this was from WTC4, a smaller building not destroyed but excessively damaged, and we're housed in an underground vault, so I persoanlly doubt heat would have anything to do it with. Take as you will....
I believe you are correct books. @Conder101 knows the specifics I think. About how they came to be, I believe after they were recovered they were given back to their owners and pcgs ran a special for them to be slabbed in these lables. The numbers as the 1 of 150 on mine are misleading. It means that the submitter submitted 150 or whatever sets. It doesn't mean that it's the first of 150 as all are 1 of 150 or 1 of 420 etc. Not sure about non-numbered ones though
Personally I don't think people should get bent out of shape over these. I don't know what these go for but hopefully not multiples of what a normal one would go for. There was two options. Throw them back in circulation with the rest or give them provenance as coming from the event. I personally prefer the latter to happen as it did. I don't own any. But they should be labeled as a piece of history. I don't feel it detracts from them or glorifies them. Its simply a pedigree just as any of the others available from other hoards, or tragedies. To get worked up over it is wasted energy. They're from a historic event that can't be changed. Its going to give them an added collectability. I can understand that some would never want one. That's fine too, IMO.
Last I looked about a year ago most golds sell for half to double above spot and the ase's go for $100-150. Not sure about the world stuff
