Could be.. Or they are just ignorant in assuming that if a coin looks weird it is automatically an error :banghead:
The unfortunate part is that newbies who want to get into the hobby see this kind of crap and think they found a legit error

They are thinking that with the wonderful quality control at the mint that no coin could ever look like that and leave the mint. Therefore, it’s an error.

Some are desperate, some are hopeful, some are uneducated, some don't care at all. And the same terms apply to the same people who do buy for their reason.

I wish that only the very obvious errors ( and thus the most valuable ) were listed rather than every fly "speck" that requires magnification of 30 or 40X to see it. But if it is listed by almost any group. it is worth much more when sold with the "expert's" listing. But I know that is will not happen for most cases. Jim

    Look at his other listings..

    Definitely casting a wide net.

Worse are the people buying junky quarters and cents in his feedback page :(

I would hope that at the beginning of me doing coins that I would not be stupid enough to go for this. It makes me so mad when these people post things that are not mint errors but when it is PMD . I wish all newbies would check with the pros first before ever buying anything from EBAY or ETSY.

Because they have a mental image of people in white lab coats carefully placing each individual planchet into spotlessly cleaned and polished dies. Pressing a special button that gently but forcefully strikes it and presents the now coin to the acolyte who places it reverently in a velvet-lined pouch for delivery to the bank.

I see several possibilities that would explain this listing.

    A. Some idiot who took Etsy a little too seriously.

    B. Just a garden variety idiot who read a thinly-sourced clickbait article that implored the reader to check their change for some exotic error or impossible rarity worth $$$$$$$.

    C. Scam looking to take advantage of idiots with too much money.

    D. eBay feedback manipulation.

    E. Money laundering (case in point Disney VHS tapes).

Do you think many get others to bid etc. Falsifying the price more or less. It is a shame what some can do out there.

It could very well be on par with money laundering. It happens with modern "art" all the time in the auction industry.

Yes I guess so. I guess that’s really with everything. And in this day and time, some will do anything.

I report these kinds of ebay listings all the time, but ebay seldom if ever does anything about it! Grrrr! :banghead:
