Some of you know, I acquired 10 pounds of cents from an auction, and I just finished going through it last night. Lo-and-behold, I found a 1955 doubled die. Never thought I could be that lucky!! Yahoo I know, I know, you can't tell anything from that picture, so here's another. Snarkle, snarkle, snarkle.
Well the trick mybe on you! Ha ha...as theres 3 different 1955 ddo's.... and the 002 is nothing to sneeze at...as 14 years ago I was gettinng $300 /500 ea.
I admit it. @Mountain Man got me. However, if it had been a cent hoard from New England that had not been touched in over 65 years, it's possible. I knew a man, when I lived in the Boston area, who told me that he and his father found eight 1955 doubled die cents in rolls. They sold them over time to add to their large cent collection. For those who might not know about this coin, here is an example. This one has become a classic. It first appeared in the 13th edition of The Red Book. I know that because that was the first edition of the book I received as a collector in 1960. The coin was listed there at $50 in Unc.
