You mean that a school desk wasn't going to protect me from a nuclear blast? Those lying teachers. As for addiction, I have a pretty good understanding of it. I was born with severe curvature of the spine (not enough to keep me out of the military) and later in life, suffer from fibromyalgia. I had been on codeine for the bad days, but when the government saw fit to restrict all opioids, I was dropped like a hot rock. Take as needed, never gave me more than half a dozen. When I was diagnosed with incurable cancer, the doctor told me it was like winning the "golden ticket" and I could have as much as I wanted, and stronger if I so desired. I've given up alcohol, but still rely on my codeine to get by, day by day. I admire all those that can kick those habits and do without.
Where can I buy one of those wooden school desks that will protect against nukes!! Ah the memories!!!
My grandmother lived on Dewes St just off Harlem Ave. One plane landed in the street a block away. Apparently the pilots had maneuvered so they would land in the street and not the houses. The neighbors created a scholarship fund for the children of the aviators, I don't think they were able to bail out. I think there were other crashes. The Chicago Tribune put up a map of where they thought the nukes would hit. Oh dear, one of them wasn't too far from our house.....
