Hey all, Looks like a collar clash on this 1977 quarter that has gotten some wear. What do you all think? Worth keeping?
Keep in mind a collar clash happens between the rim and the field . looks to me like finning, not a collar clash . Also a collar clash causes a MAD on the collar clash side .
I have a different opinion. I say it's a slight collar clash and it has worn a bit due to circulation. About keeping it or not that's up to you. It's really nothing major.
In my opinion not all collar clashes are misaligned. It could appear on the very edge also. Here's an example of a collar clash on the edge of this Kennedy Half. See how it starts on top.. Looks like what you see on the OP's quarter. Now imagine years of wear just leaving traces of it. Of seen many examples over the years. Just MHO If you think I'm wrong then what could it be? Because that's not finning.
I was met with a lot of excitement to see some discourse with varying opinions from Rick, Paddyman, and Paddy54! I appreciate all of your expertise and input. Perhaps I should have pointed to it with arrows like you did. Glad to know it is a collar clash and that I'm not too out of practice. The reverse of the quarter isn't much misaligned. I honestly have a hard time differentiating finning from collar clash. It just doesn't make too much sense to me! Thank you all for the great picture examples too.
