Yes, I agree with Bing. Go buy those LRBs and leave all those nasty RR and Imperial silver coins to me. It's a difficult sacrifice to make on my part, but I'm willing to take one for the team.
No worries folks, personally, I am not a huge fan of the Empire, and am only chasing portraits for now... I focus mainly on the Republican times... But, @Sallent , you owe me for all the Fake Sites that I dumped on you to ensure all your new acquisitions of RR Silvers are authentic...
I'd join in with the disingenuous advice but even if I don't actively collect a particular era of coins now, I might start lusting for them tomorrow. The biggest "problem" is that in publicly gushing over our new coins, we create interest and competition. The main reason I skip over some eras of coins now is that there just isn't enough time or money to get them all .
Congratulations Yankee! Roman Republican Denarii give you nearly 200 years worth of coins to collect starting in the late 3rd century BC though the late middle of the 1st, with most of the years offering different designs from multiple monniers especially later in the 2nd century onward. It's a wonderfully varied and historically rich era which can provide a lifetime of collecting pleasure.
An excellent first ancient coin! You have started on a journey with many paths, enjoy where it takes you.
Really... RR, LRB, Imperials... it's all a bit old hat. What you really want to be buying are all those ancient Indian coins. Check out ancientnoob's threads and head over to that side of the playground. J/k... nice coin, OP, and welcome .
