I have 2 coins that i am interested in finding out some information about. a 1950 wheat penny that look's silver on both sides and a 1853 seated liberty w/arrows that i found on the ground while artifact hunting for arrow heads , it has part of it missing i guess you call it a clip? i'll post pictures of both and thanks for any information
The penny looks like it was plated with mercury that was eaten away by the soil. The seated silver looks like a damaged cut coin, not a mint error clip. As to why they were in the ground, who knows. Maybe they were seen as junk and tossed or just plain lost. Couldn't have been a pocket spill though I don't think as they are too far apart era wise
the seated liberty was found in a plowed up field near a old house that was back in the mid 1800's ,, while arrow head hunting ,, the wheat penny was found while i was looking at some change i had in my pocket, the silver look kind of caught my eye ,but over the years while i was artifact hunting i have found a few coins and tokens from the mid 1800's ,i have 1 coin i believe is a nickle from mid 1800 that has a whole in the center of it
