I hadn't seen that they were changing for sure.. only that the idea of placing other Native Amerian images on the Obverse... Honestly, I would have to see what they do... I may only get them to keep my current Sac rolls complete...
I will probably do what I am doing with the Presidential Dollars and just get one of each mint and call it good.
The proof and mint set for the Sawagawea since they are already in these sets. Really have not purchased a lot this year. Still recovering from 2006. Oh what a year.
This thread is the biggest argument I have yet to see to BUY these up! Let me think.... Do I want something that everyone else has or....? At least the mint won't be selling out of these in two hours! And you can even open the box up when it comes in the mail - it's unlikely that an unopened box will be a collectable. LOL.
That whole SAC thing seems to politically correct. If we are going to honor a native american, lets put a warrior on it. There are so many to choose from and if you think about it, that sac chick sold out her people by showing the way to get thru the northwest lands.
The "Mommy Baby Dollar," as Thalia Elizabeth calls it, began in 2000 which is when she was born, so I imagine we will collect them. It appears that this will put us in the minority, but that's OK. At least they won't be expensive... I hope...
I have a full set so far, so I'll probably just keep getting one per mint and finish (even though I hate the satin finishes) every year.
I totally agree. Sacagawea wasnt the only Native American that made a name for her/him self. There were plenty of Native American warriors that were famous in their own right and likewise deserve to be depicted on the obverse of a circulating American coin. Sitting Bull, Geronimo, Victorio, Quanah, Cochise, Chief Joseph and Crazy Horse just to name a very few. They sacrificed their lives and the lives of their people to try and save what was once theirs, the only way of life that they knew, living off of the land and being one with the earth. They loved this country also, a long time before the white men came to "tame" the west. I would support a law to mint these coins and would encourage my congressman to do so also. My Native American ancestors probably wouldnt like the idea of their likeness being on a "government" coin but I would collect them.
How about this? Let the TRUE Americans decide what goes on this coin from year to year? Let the series live at the discretion of the Native Americans.
Those are the new Sac dollars that I am talking about. There is talk (serious talk) of putting notable Native Americans on the reverse of these and issuing 4 per year. This will help them to move the huge amount of Sac dollars out of storage (in theory).
