1996 P NICKEL

Good morning everyone, I found this Nickel in my pocket change, wondering if it's an error on the letter T of the word UNITED.

Looks like a combo of die deterioration and wear from circulation.

 

What makes you think that it is an error?

Hi cpm9ball, it looks like the following T in the word STATES are progressively getting better and straighter but I'm no expert

 

It's probably die deterioration like @Markus1959 said. Note the striations in the field where it should be smooth. I just wanted you (edited) to think about it. That's all!
