last month i mentioned i was going to do a small coins display in our school library, many of you made comments in that thread that i considered very carefully...thank you! well, it's up. extra special thanks to @TIF and @Ancientnoob for help with the display write up, and thanks to @AncientJoe for letting me have some high resolution pics of his sweet coins! sorry the pics are small, if any of you want to actually read the items in the display, there is a link below. here is the entire case... here is the upper right with title and pic... the three shelves have actual coins, with general info against the back wall, and specific details of each coin on a angled piece of photo paper above the coin on the shelf. the paper also shows the an enlarged pic of the coin reverse. Greeks... roman coins... "other" coins... the bottom just has pictures with descriptions of the coin below... the lighting is poor, but there is movable celing lighting so light can be focused at various places. maintenance is going to move things around to brighten things up for me. on a small stand next to the display is info for people interested in ancients... there are also a pile of these that people can take with them. if you would like to actually read the document, it can be found here.. https://www.dropbox.com/s/p7dk408iyb9jck7/Want to learn more about ancient coins.pdf?dl=0 the text of the material in the display case can be found here, it's out of order a bit, but looking at the pics you can figure it out. https://www.dropbox.com/s/i6cr4ehidnn1t1u/Main Display.pdf?dl=0 the actual coins in the display case can are here... https://www.dropbox.com/s/t8aybwrz7u31kdj/COINS.pdf?dl=0 i think you can see the large pictures of the coins ok, the text that describes them is in the main document. while i was setting it up a couple of high school kids stopped by and checked it out, one girl was pretty hyped to get to hold a roman coin. well see if it sparks any more interest.
Sweet => well, it certainly sounds like you're gonna be the geeky hit of the high school Good luck, my cool friend => I'm sure that there'll be quite a few YN's that'll love your stuff (you rock)
Very nice. I have also shared my coins with students. One gets a good feeling from sharing one's interest in this fascinating hobby.
Great job, Chris! I think you did a terrific job of editing the information into brief and interesting tidbits. It would be easy to go overboard, and with such a display the important thing is to whet appetites. It will be interesting to see if any students take up collecting. Keep us posted about attendance at the Chrsmat Museum of Ancient Numismatics! You're C MAN
Wow, Chris. Nice job! Maps, write-ups, BIG coin pics, actual coins... nice. Looks great and professional...
When I collected US coins in jr high and high school, this would have been just the type of display to convert me to the dark side. I wish I would have transitioned much earlier. Great display!
I took down my coin display today from the school library, it was up for six months! I don't think it was very successful really, out of 15 fliers out..only 10 were taken! LOL! I had several coins to give away, only one lady that works in the library took me up on that offer. I didn't have any school students contact me, I did have one older gentlemen that uses the library inquire about the coin display. I met with him for about 20 minutes and showed him some stuff and talked about coins. He was just a fellow that finds things interesting and is a "life longer learner" in his late 60s or so. It was kind of fun to set down and talk to a human about coins face to face, I've only done that a 3 or 4 times. I also set out a few coin for people to handle, not visible in the pics above....I added them later. Just some junk bin ancients with a description. I could tell that they were "fuddled" with on occasion. Thanks again to TIF, ancientnoob, and ancient joe for the help!
