Hi! I'm in Kansas City and have my dad's coin collection to sell. He had about 10 bills, 400 Liberty Nickels, all have readable dates but none have Liberty in her head band readable, a few dimes, wheat pennies, Indian head pennies and a few others. If anyone knows the best place in Kansas City to sell these, I'd appreciate it. Also, what kind of value I can expect? I've been looking on the net for average wholesale prices and they are all over the place. TIA
Im sorry, I am not familar with the Kansas City area, but I do know that Coin Shows are oftentimes the best place to go to sell coins, or to at least learn more about them! www.coinshows.com has a great list of upcoming coin shows.
If you can photograph both sides of two or three of the nickels and post them here, it would be helpful.
Thanks all! The reason I was looking for a personal recommendation is some dealers are more ethical than others. I met a dealer at an estate sale a few years back and went to his shop last week but he was out of town so wanted a backup if he wasn't there today. Last night I was messaged by a forum member who gave mean idea what it was worth, since there was nothing in the rare, gradable, desired category. And I ended up with more! There was a Liberty nickel collection in a folder with only 26 coins, none of the really rare years, and similar sold on eBay for$30, so expected $15, and he offered $60, so felt comfortable with that. He gave me 35 cents each for the 477 nickels, again, none gradable, so very happy with that. My mom had sorted them and there was a handful on foreign coins and mixed in was a small dime which I thought would be worth melt but ended up being a 1842B half-dime and he paid me $12 for that. I had a very other random items, and the total ended up being $284.75! If you're ever in the KC metro area, I'd highly recommend Double Eagle Coin Company, 305 N Scott Ave, Belton, MO 64012 Phone816) 876-9316 I do recommend calling first as he's sole owner and he may be out of the shop for an estate sale or similar.
