Is anyone aware of any 1982 cents that were minted in the new Zinc/Copper composition? I have one that sounds like the newer cent every time I bounce it on my desk. I have been doing this for a while now and it does not have the ring a copper cent should have. Thanks Darryl I do not have a scale that is accurate enough to measure.
Darryl - the 1982 cents were made in 7 different combinations, Philly and Denver, large date, small date, and copper or zinc. I forget which one of those was omitted, but someone will be by shortly to tell us. I also find the easiest way to tell them apart is the sound test. Do enough of them and you'll figure it out quickly. I always find the large date/small date to be the hardest part to tell them apart, unless you already have a known example handy.
I listen to a lot of cents on my desk and I am 99.9% certian this is not copper. There is no mint mark so it is Philly and I think the date is large? Thanks Topher & Frank & Dock & hamman88 - does not look to uncommon based on the mint numbers... Best Regards, Darryl
