Has anyone ever tried to upgrade the holder on a 9/11 etc ground zero recovery piece?? Got 5 I want to up grade the holders is it worth it Sent from my C6740N using Tapatalk
I think you talk about a common ASE. Is it a MS68? In this case I do not believe so, but if it's a 69 and there is a possibility to get a 70, why not?
In most cases, I'd think the novelty of being a Ground Zero recovery would trump any upgrade. I can't say I'd expect any gains from a bullion piece. That said, I've seen some odd stuff holdered in the 9/11 slab. There's certainly potential there.
Don't do it! Those holders are the only thing linking those coins to history. PM me and I'll trade you non-recovery coins for yours. Please don't do it!
I'm not trading or selling I just wanted to upgrade the holder cause of the new security measures Sent from my C6740N using Tapatalk
Wait, so you want to dump the provenance that tells us and everyone in the future long after you are dead that the coin was witness to the worst terrorist attack ever in the United States. An attack that fundamentally changed our way of loife and the world. And for what; security measures? Are you an American?! I'm done with this thread
The coin is still a wtc 911 recovery coin no matter what holder I put it in . I have quite a few 911 coins 5-8 I think I have to check the list. But I been working for the government since I was 18 don't doubt my loyalty... I know where my bread is buttered... the thing is I want to upgrade the holder, Sent from my C6740N using Tapatalk
That's kind of pathetic, assigning extra value to a coin because it had the poor luck to have a building fall on it. There was a lot of pocket change in the vicinity on that day; is it worth extra too? If there's anything more despicable than profiting from tragedy, I don't know what it is.
I don't see it as profiting off of tragedy. Maybe in the beginning by the original owners of the bullion. But now we have coins & tangible items directly linked to that fateful day. As a history buff I thought you'd appreciate that dave. What are your thoughts on say burned spoons and items gathered by onlookers in the days after the Hindenburg or Titanic recovery items etc. I guess this is one area where we disagree
I disagree but hey, it's your coin to do with whatever you please. I strongly suggest leaving it be though. What coin is that in the holder?
It's a Canadian maple , I have 4 eagles 1 maple and 2 foreign coins Sent from my C6740N using Tapatalk
Yeah, we can disagree here without jeopardizing the friendship. I am violently opposed to Ground Zero coins. That said, the market for them obviously exists and I *do* agree that the smarter course is for the OP to keep them in their slabs. The only moral course I have the right to chart is my own.
