OK I tend to collect in spurts, to fall in love with a design and then searching out an example I like. I guess I collect coins like I would art. So after much work, I've finally aquired this Mercury Dime, which might be the best one I could really afford I don't have it in hand yet, but it should come soon. I loved that 1919 dime that we were looking at but I just couldn't part with that much cash. Ruben
Wow, MS-67. They don't make 'em much nicer than that. How many 1936-S has PCGS graded nicer than that?
I think this one is nice for the grade. I looked at a lot of MS67's and this one is very crisp. Ruben
The PCGS website states that your coin is one of only 53 to have ever received a grade of MS-67 FB. And no 1936-S has ever been graded higher. They list its value at $800! Nice Coin you've got there!!! http://www.coinfacts.com/dimes/mercury_dimes/1936s_mercury_head_dime.htm
That's a beautiful coin Ruben. Enjoy! Oh, and I sometimes tend to collect like you too. I try to get going on some sort of set, then something else catches my interest, so away I go looking for an example of that coin. Oh well...as long as we have fun! :high5:
Beautiful dime! There is a soft spot in my heart for Mercury dimes. When I was a kid my grandfather would give each of us a dime on Sundays to go get an ice cream cone at the local store. Oh the choice Mercs I must have spent.
i dont know if its just a reflection of the light but is there slight doubling on its head on the top nice coin
the doubling effect is common on well struck examples of the Mercury's. i have a few that have a halo effect around the entire bust. very cool, sorta makes the bust jump out. -steve
the picture isnt close enough for me to see it on the 36 but is it a known variety and did you buy it knowing it had doubling also is it just strike doubling?
I think after this coin, I'll likely be done with my Mercury Dime fetish for a little while. I'm sort of building interest in a standing liberty quarter next. If I had more money, I'd take a shot at that 1919 Dime I posted before, but $900 is just not in my budget. I can't wait to get this in my hands to take photo's of it with my own camera. This coin is a better MS67 than any of the others I spotted that was available. Ruben
