Lol, it doesn't look like a die clash that would match anything to me. That is why I was wondering what it is.

Looks like die clash to me too. Any more of it above the monument? Seems like the last couple I found had marks in the first few columns and above the monument.

You are seeing Abe's chin and neck....upside down of course.

Very nice die clash Shelia! Hold your coin upside down and hold the obverse of another penny next to the columns. You can clearly see the nose and chin of Lincoln. The far right column is from built up dirt and debris. :)

    Here's an overlay...

This thread is worthless without pictures. Or rather, it would be; with the excellent photo of the original coin, and @Cascade's excellent overlay shot, it's one of the clearest illustrations I've seen yet. Thanks, both of you!

Ok, now I see it. I just couldn't imagine what that could have been. Lol, I never thought to turn it upside down! Thanks guys!

That's all that is on it. That is why I couldn't figure it out. I looked all over it.

Not mine but thanks. All you have to do is Google "lincoln memorial overlay" or "X overlay" to find high quality overlays of whichever series you want and compare where the obverse & reverse designs line up. I think there's also a page of nothing but overlay pictures on www.maddieclashes.com

From looking at the overlay, the nose wouldn't be inside the columns, it would be down beside the steps, so how does the nose get in between the columns? Misaligned dies?
